Impact of Climate Induced Sea Level rise on Coastal Cities in United States mapped out on Google Maps.
(Source: Architecture 2030)
The US is a coastal nation with over 12000 miles of coastline. With 53% of all Americans living in and around coastal cities and towns, it is important to understand the impact of climate-induced sea level rise on our nation. By illustrating sea level rise mapping as an aerial, three-dimensional snapshot of a city or town, the images take on a sense of familiarity and immediacy, and by connection, gives one a more realistic understanding of the physical impacts of sea level rise. Click on any coastal city on the map to see impacts of climate change on coastal zone.
Carbon Dioxide Emissions From Power Plants Rated Nationwide
Power generation accounts for about one-quarter of total emissions of CO2, the main culprit in global warming. The U.S., with over 8,000 power plants out of the more than 50,000 worldwide, accounts for about 25 percent of that total or 2.8 billion tons. The U.S.'s biggest CO2 emitter is Southern Co. with annual emissions of 172 million tons, followed by American Electric Power Company Inc., Duke Energy Corp., and AES Corp. Emissions data are available for states and cities, making it possible to compare total power-related emissions by locality.
